Aiken Standard: Young has shown leadership skills

I’ve known Tommy, it’s difficult to stop calling him that, from his time of birth. We’ve watched him grow up within his church and grow from childhood into manhood.

Tom has always been conscientious, even as a child. He’s been involved in church, school and is generally a student of life. I always thought that Tommy had the best “people skills” that I had seen in a young person.

He has intelligence, dedication and experience in leadership roles that, I think, qualifies him to fill the job that Skipper Perry is leaving in the House of Representatives. This in no way disparages the other candidates. It’s just that I think Tommy has more to offer for the good of his constituents.

I was impressed that he was elected president of the student body at Aiken High School when he was a senior, but little did I know where he’d serve in the future. Tommy has been a staffer for Senator Strom Thurmond on two occasions , and has worked with the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee and the S.C. State Senate for four years, was a staffer for former Republican Governor Carroll Campbell, was a staffer for the Republican National Convention in 1988 and attended the Republican National Convention in 1992.

Tommy chaired the USC College Republican Club when he attended USC in Columbia. He was also president of the student body when he was at USC in Columbia. Having worked hard for so many years for other Republican candidates in the last 20 years, I think it’s now time to vote Tommy into the S.C. House of Representatives.

We’ll be well served by Tom Young, and my family and I are proud to say that we’ll be voting for him.
